A 5 hour race against the sun, over water, in terrible haze - we arrive in Hiraklion in the very last of the evenings light.

“Mixture?”, “Check.”

“Prop?”, “Check.”

“Landing gear?”, “Erm, two green, one red.”

Damn. On final for Hiraklion our landing gear indicator told us our left main gear wasn’t going down, and redeployment didn’t help either. We buzzed the tower to see if they could get a glimpse of the gear but the fading light made that near impossible.

We tentatively put the plane down and heard a reassuring squeak as the left wheel made contact with the tarmac. Phew!

The next day, after a very good nights sleep, we discovered a dirt contact in the indicator system.
